## Resource

In 1985, a creepy rubber toy called the Monster Toy sparked wild rumors—some swore it came with animatronic bodies that played “When the Saints Go Marching In.” Meanwhile, thrash metal legends Anthrax stumbled upon the toy and turned it into their own chaotic mascot: the Not Man. Born from a gurning, mustachioed tour shirt design, he evolved into a goofy, tattooed icon that contrasted with other metal mascots like Eddie or Vic Rattlehead. With his papier-mâché head in music videos, comic book parodies, and even a graphic novel, the Not Man became Anthrax’s signature goofball. Now, as the band releases a new history book packed with Not Man art, fans are reminded that sometimes the most iconic symbols come from accidental discoveries—and a whole lot of silliness.
