## Resource

This episode details the criminal trial of William Riley Gaul, a former college football player convicted of murdering his ex-girlfriend, Emma Walker. The narrative explores a tumultuous relationship defined by Gaul’s obsessive attempts to manipulate Walker through staged kidnappings and anonymous threats after she ended their romance. Prosecutors successfully argued that Gaul fired a stolen handgun into Walker’s home while she slept, while the defense claimed the shooting was a reckless attempt to scare her rather than an intentional killing. Crucial evidence included secret recordings made by Gaul’s friends, which captured him attempting to hide the murder weapon and coordinate a false alibi. Ultimately, the jury rejected the defense's theory, finding Gaul guilty of first-degree murder and various other felonies. He is currently serving a life sentence in Tennessee after his numerous appeals were denied.
