## Resource

The episode details the investigation and ultimate conviction of Lente Lazar for the brutal murder of his mother, Athena Valentini, in her Grover Beach home. Authorities discovered the victim, a prison nurse, with fatal throat wounds after she failed to report for work. While Lazar initially claimed he was thousands of miles away in Indiana, investigators utilized cell tower data, license plate readers, and surveillance footage to track his cross-country journey to the crime scene. During a high-stakes interrogation, Lazar offered a bizarre defense involving a secret trip to buy marijuana, but his alibi collapsed when digital forensics proved he searched for news of the murder before her body was even found. Prosecutors established financial desperation as the primary motive, noting that Lazar was the sole heir to his mother's estate. The case concluded with a guilty verdict, resulting in a sentence of life imprisonment without parole for the remorseless defendant.
