## Resource

In March 2015, the body of eighteen-year-old Brittany Gargol was discovered near a landfill in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, marking the beginning of a complex homicide investigation. Initially, her best friend Cheyenne Antoine provided false alibis and used social media to feign grief while misleading authorities about a mysterious stranger. The case shifted dramatically when police identified a belt seen in a Facebook selfie as the murder weapon found at the crime scene. Under mounting evidence and a confession made to a third party, Antoine eventually admitted to killing Gargol during an alcohol-fueled argument, though she claimed to have no memory of the specific details. She pleaded guilty to manslaughter and received a seven-year prison sentence in 2018. This tragic account highlights how digital evidence and persistent investigation eventually exposed the betrayal committed by a trusted friend.
