## Resource

Nine statues of Canada’s former prime ministers now stand proudly along the Prime Ministers Path in Wilmot, Ontario — including newly unveiled figures Sir John Abbott, Sir John Thompson, Sir Mackenzie Bowell, and Sir Charles Tupper — but this project’s journey has been anything but smooth. Once scrapped in 2021 amid fierce backlash over historical figures’ roles in Indigenous relations, it’s back on track thanks to a local council vote and a new educational partnership with Six Nations of the Grand River. While organizers insist Indigenous voices were part of early talks — even if communication fell short — critics argue the addition of an online learning component doesn’t undo past harms. With 22 statues planned — excluding current leaders — the project aims to honor history while reckoning with its complexities.
