## Resource

The Canadiens are poised for a breakout season, but the pressure mounts as they chase that elusive championship. After a thrilling run to the Eastern Conference Final last year, they now face the daunting task of taking that next step — a challenge history says is nearly impossible. Training camp’s biggest puzzle? A crowded goalie room with three options, which could destabilize the crease. GM Kent Hughes admits it’s messy, and moving Montembeault might be the cleanest fix — though finding a trade partner is tough. On offense, the second-line center spot remains a dilemma: no cap space for elite talent, forcing coach St-Louis to balance defensive specialists like Evans and Danault against struggling faceoff men. And with Kaiden Guhle sidelined, young defensemen Reinbacher, Engstrom, and Xhekaj get their shot — especially Engstrom, whose speed and stats make him a perfect fit for Montreal’s fast game.
