## Resource

The National Trust for Local News is making headlines by acquiring five Vermont weekly newspapers — including the Stowe Reporter and The Other Paper of South Burlington — to prevent “news deserts” and ensure local journalism survives. Founded just five years ago, this nonprofit has already secured papers in Colorado, Georgia, and Maine, and now aims to stabilize these Vermont outlets with minimal cost, full staff retention, and new investment. Led by veteran journalist Bill Stille, the Trust plans to boost revenue and expand coverage while keeping editorial leadership and advertising models intact. Though they’ve faced setbacks before, this move signals a more cautious, community-focused strategy to preserve vital local news.
