## Resource

Al Taawoun fans sparked outrage after chanting Diogo Jota’s name to provoke Rúben Neves, prompting Cristiano Ronaldo to call for lifetime bans—though the Saudi Pro League opted for a broader punishment: banning all Al Taawoun supporters from the next two home games and fining the club $100,000. The incident violated SAFF regulations on harassment during matches, leading to a significantly steeper penalty than the minimum. Jota, a beloved Portuguese star who died tragically in a car crash at just 28, was deeply mourned by Neves, his close friend and teammate, making the chants not only cruel but profoundly insensitive. This isn’t the first time football has seen such despicable behavior—echoing past tragedies like Hillsborough—highlighting how some fans still resort to hatred despite the sport’s progress.
