## Resource

St. Paul is set to begin closing homeless encampments starting August 5th, beginning with Pig’s Eye Park, as part of a $1 million effort to expand shelter beds and case management for about 200 people. The city, partnering with Ramsey County and local providers, aims to improve access to services like extended shelter hours and help with IDs and warrants—but critics like Stop the Sweeps argue closures just relocate the problem and demand solutions that empower unhoused individuals rather than enforce blanket bans. Outreach teams will continue engaging residents even after camps are cleared, though exact shelter bed availability remains untracked, underscoring the ongoing tension between public safety and compassionate housing solutions.
