## Resource

The Rapidan Dam, a century-old structure damaged beyond repair by historic flooding, is set for removal after an environmental review confirmed its demolition will restore the river’s natural flow and revive aquatic ecosystems. While some locals hoped to rebuild, the Blue Earth County Board voted for removal — a decision now moving forward with complex federal permitting and funding hurdles, including delays from FEMA. Construction of a new County Road nine bridge, which also collapsed in the flood, is slated to begin this fall, with completion expected by late 2028. The county aims to award the dam removal contract by early 2027, restoring the river’s health and undoing decades of environmental harm.
