## Resource

An ICE agent, Christian Castro, faces serious federal charges after allegedly lying about a January shooting in Minneapolis that killed Venezuelan man Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis. His claim of being attacked with a shovel and broom during an arrest clashes with surveillance and witness accounts. Arrested in Texas on a Minnesota warrant, Castro was released due to legal detention limits after Texas Governor Greg Abbott stalled extradition. The case erupted amid national unrest following a major immigration raid, with Minnesota officials suing Abbott to keep Castro jailed — but to no avail. Federal prosecutors reportedly considered civil rights charges, only to be blocked by Washington. The Department of Justice insists decisions are fact-based and collaborative, while Minnesota fears Castro may flee, especially with ties to Mexico. This tangled legal battle underscores the friction between states, local authorities, and federal agencies — and Castro’s fate remains uncertain.
