## Resource

Governor Walz just slammed the brakes on new nonferrous mining near the Boundary Waters with a bold executive order, stepping up protection as Congress stripped federal safeguards. The Minnesota DNR followed suit, canceling Twin Metals’ mineral lease on School Trust Lands — land meant to fund K-12 education — after 16 years of exploration by the company, which argues the move hurts long-term school revenue. Though Twin Metals still holds other rights in the region, the cancellation takes effect November 10th, adding fuel to the national debate over economic gain versus environmental preservation in one of America’s most cherished wilderness areas.
