## Resource

A 67-year-old son turned alleged thief: Rafael Evelio Barcelo faces first-degree felony charges for allegedly stealing over $86,000 from his parents’ retirement savings—just as his father was falling ill. Once trusted with their finances, Barcelo reportedly used his caregiving role to siphon funds, leaving only $7,000 behind. His father died months later, adding heartbreak to the betrayal. Prosecutors say he enriched himself and his own son, turning a sacred duty into a crime. The case underscores how vulnerable seniors are—and why financial vigilance matters more than ever.
