## Resource

Birthright citizenship is under fire as Republicans push to redefine “subject to the jurisdiction thereof” to curb “birth tourism”—the practice of wealthy parents flying to the U.S. to give birth for automatic citizenship. Democrats fiercely oppose it, calling it bigoted and legally baseless, pointing to Supreme Court rulings that have repeatedly affirmed citizenship for all born on U.S. soil. President Trump has labeled the system unfair, citing investigations into Florida-based “concierge birth” services, including pediatrician Dr. Wladimir Lorentz, who invoked his Fifth Amendment rights during congressional testimony. Meanwhile, a federal judge has already blocked Trump’s executive order targeting birth tourism, reinforcing the courts’ stance that birthright citizenship remains firmly intact—and politically explosive.
