## Resource

Australia’s rabbit plague is roaring back—fuelled by good rains and exploding to potentially 200 million, these invasive pests are devastating native ecosystems, outcompeting wildlife and stripping landscapes bare. While once controlled by viruses like myxoma, rabbits are now building resistance, forcing scientists to develop new strains. Landholders battle with fencing, poisoning, and fumigation, but suburban areas pose extra challenges as rabbits act as re-infestation reservoirs. Tackling rabbits isn’t just about eradicating a pest—it’s critical to managing predators like foxes and cats, making this one of Australia’s most urgent ecological battles.
