## Resource

Australia just hit a historic milestone—electric vehicles outsold gas cars for the first time in August, with over 27,000 EVs sold, making up nearly 25% of new car sales. This surge is fueled by skyrocketing fuel prices and government pressure through new emissions standards, pushing automakers to expand affordable EV options. Climate minister Chris Bowen hailed it as a “landmark moment,” as Aussies choose cleaner, cheaper transport. Toyota still leads, but Chinese brands like BYD and GWM are rising fast—with Tesla’s Model Y topping sales. Experts call this a “structural shift,” driven by both economics and environment. Now, the focus turns to expanding access for regional communities, renters, and apartment dwellers, while building reliable charging infrastructure nationwide to sustain the momentum.
