## Resource

Australia’s cracking down on big tech with bold new laws that let users over sixteen opt out of algorithm-driven feeds—choosing instead to see only content from people they follow. Platforms that don’t comply risk fines up to $100 million, and a pop-up will prompt users to decide their feed preference. Beyond feed control, the legislation also shields minors under eighteen by mandating safeguards against harmful content—including pornography, eating disorder material, misogyny, crime glorification, and mental distress triggers. The eSafety commissioner gains enforcement power to order removals, and companies must prove active efforts to combat online dangers. This marks a major push for digital duty of care for young Australians, with Prime Minister backing expected on the global stage—even as tech giants and opposition voices raise concerns.
