## Resource

Oldham Council’s political deadlock has forced a radical fix: no leader, no cabinet — so the chief exec stepped in with emergency powers. Now, councillors have voted to split responsibilities across parties by size, creating a temporary oversight system to keep services running without government takeover. Drama erupted when Reform UK initially abstained, but the plan passed 46-1 with 4 abstentions. Parties now monitor key areas like Resources or Children and Young People — no policy-making, just watchful eyes — to avoid chaos and preserve local control.
