## Resource

Garry Bridges is stepping into Manchester’s top council role with a $1 billion budget, ready to tackle housing shortages and rough sleeping while seizing the city’s potential. His big goals? Building 10,000 affordable homes by 2032 and reviving Strangeways—possibly even relocating the prison. With ties to key political figures like Mayor Bev Craig and PM Andy Burnham, Bridges brings deep local roots and a mission to rebuild public trust after recent electoral losses. Meanwhile, a high-stakes by-election in Burnage could reshape Manchester’s future, as the Greens surge ahead. Off the council agenda: a pub’s transformation into a grassroots music hub, airport chaos from technical glitches, and a house explosion in north Manchester leaving one man critically injured.
