## Resource

This recording is a religious reflection exploring the foundational tension between divine authority and human suffering found in the Gospel of Matthew. I discuss the significant moment when Jesus names Peter the “rock” of the Church, only to immediately rebuke him for rejecting the prophecy of the upcoming Passion and Crucifixion. By comparing Peter’s resistance to the pride of fallen angels, the homily emphasizes that avoiding hardship is a human impulse rather than a divine one. Using the metaphor of a scuba diver holding their breath to reach safety, the narrative argues that personal suffering and self-denial are the necessary paths to salvation. Ultimately, I exhort believers to embrace their daily crosses, whether through difficult relationships or moral struggles, as an imitation of Christ.
