## Resource

In a shocking courtroom twist, Shaun Jaco, 49, is dropping his not guilty plea in a brutal assault case involving a 15-year-old girl — now opting for “not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect.” After confirming he’s legally competent to stand trial, Jaco’s defense is shifting gears, arguing his mental state at the time of the alleged crimes rendered him incapable of understanding right from wrong. A new psychiatric evaluation has been ordered, and the next court date looms on October 27 — as this high-stakes case heads into uncharted legal territory.
