## Resource

The CIA just released over 100 pages of secret presidential briefings from before 9/11, revealing chilling warnings that al-Qaeda and Osama bin Laden were plotting to attack the U.S. — including a specific alert in 1998 stating they “may fly an explosive-packed airplane into a US city.” These documents show years of escalating threats: shopping mall attacks, nuclear and chemical weapons ambitions, even kidnapping Americans. Despite clear red flags — like a 2001 briefing declaring “Bin Ladin Determined To Strike In US” — critical pieces of intel remained fragmented due to agency silos and poor communication. Some claims, like hijacking U.S. aircraft, couldn’t be confirmed, yet the sheer volume of warnings underscores how close we came to preventing catastrophe — and how easily intelligence can fall through the cracks.
