## Resource

Luke Thiomas Gets Political: Sean Strickland, UFC politics, Trump, Dana White, the Epstein files, and Israel collide in a debate over whether the UFC still answers to fight fans or to the political interests around Donald Trump. The discussion centers on Strickland becoming an unexpected stress test for the UFC’s political identity. Luke breaks down why the UFC’s rightward turn is not new, why Dana White’s relationship with Trump has already answered many of these questions, and why fan backlash may matter far less than people think. From Derrick Lewis allegedly being moved at Trump’s request to Strickland’s comments on Israel and the Epstein files, the larger issue is whether the UFC is operating as a sports promotion, a political brand, or something in between. The conversation also turns to Trump’s attempts to physically mark Washington, DC, including monuments, public spaces, the Kennedy Center, the Reflecting Pool, and the proposed Freedom 250 design.Listen to the full conversation over on Luke’s Substack: https://lthomas.substack.com/Subscribe for more political commentary, media analysis, and breakdowns of how sports, power, and politics keep colliding.Chapters00:00 UFC’s Political Test01:00 The UFC’s MAGA Turn03:00 Dana White Answers Fans04:00 Sean Strickland Backlash05:30 Bill Maher Comparison07:30 Freedom 250 Trolling08:30 Trump Reshapes DC10:00 Fountains And Funding11:00 Monuments, UFC And Power
