## Resource

On Constitution Day, September 17th, the story of Tim Cole—a Texas Tech veteran and student wrongly convicted of sexual assault—shatters the illusion of justice. His brother Cory recalls the gut-wrenching day he got the call, a moment that exposed how easily truth can be buried. Despite a 25-year sentence that tore apart his family, Tim remained kind, calm, and devoted to his younger brother—even behind bars. He died at 39 from an asthma attack, but his fight didn’t end. Years later, Jerry Wayne Johnson confessed to the crime, and in 2009, DNA evidence proved Tim’s innocence. Posthumously pardoned by the governor, Tim became the first person in Texas to receive such a rare honor—a haunting reminder that justice, though flawed, can still be redeemed.
