## Resource

Five courageous first responders from Lubbock were honored with the prestigious Star of Texas Award in Austin, recognizing their bravery and sacrifice after sustaining serious injuries while serving their communities. Among them: Officer Levi Israel Ridley, shot during a high-risk call; Deputy Andrew Cavazos and Deputy Jorge Martinez, injured in a crash while helping stranded drivers; Sergeant Shawn Wilson, wounded during a SWAT operation; and Chief Rex T. Plant, hurt while executing a warrant. These awards, given annually since 2003 to over 760 Texans, shine a spotlight on the daily risks these heroes face — a powerful tribute to their unwavering dedication and courage.
