## Resource

A 46-year-old man, Eric Robles, just received an 18-year sentence for murder — the first time in El Paso and West Texas that someone has been charged with killing another person via fentanyl overdose. He admitted to manufacturing and delivering the deadly drug that killed 49-year-old Jesus Hernandez, who died in jail after being found with lethal levels of fentanyl. Robles was already detained when Hernandez died — moved to a federal facility on the same day — and correction officers later discovered over 25 grams of fentanyl hidden in his rectum. This case stems from Texas House Bill 6, which criminalizes supplying drugs that cause death as murder. District Attorney James Montoya made it clear: pushing dangerous substances like fentanyl carries deadly consequences — and prosecutors won’t hesitate to use these new laws to hold traffickers accountable.
