## Resource

The FBI is quietly rewriting its hiring rules, ditching automatic disqualifiers for past prostitution or bestiality ties—now evaluating context to spot potential trafficking victims. Director Kash Patel admits he was surprised at first, but believes this shift could help vulnerable applicants come forward. The debate erupted during a congressional hearing focused on crime, but quickly turned to leadership and partisanship, amid Patel’s own defamation lawsuit against a magazine. As the bureau tries to balance security with social progress, these changes signal a tense, evolving chapter in its mission—and public trust.
