## Resource

A 51-year-old man, Jarques Ratliff, has pleaded not guilty to murder in the death of 29-year-old Black woman Tasia Fortune, found hanging in Jackson, Mississippi. The medical examiner ruled it a homicide, leading to his arrest. Ratliff was denied bail and refused to speak to reporters; prosecutors noted he tried to flee during arrest. The case has sparked national attention due to its eerie resemblance to historical lynchings, though authorities haven’t confirmed racial motives. Police chief hinted at more arrests ahead, while noting Ratliff and Fortune had some connection. This follows other recent hanging deaths in Mississippi—ruled suicides—which adds complexity to the unfolding investigation.
