## Resource

Governor Gavin Newsom is fiercely defending his administration against a federal probe into his travel expenses, calling it politically motivated retaliation from the White House for his criticism of President Trump. Subpoenas have been issued targeting the California State Protocol Foundation — a nonprofit set up under Republican Governor Schwarzenegger to cover governor’s travel costs using corporate donations — which Newsom helped steer. He and his team accuse federal agents of launching a baseless witch hunt, even claiming it’s a “MAGA conspiracy theory” fueled by a “sick man in the White House.” The foundation, which has funded everything from international summits to Super Bowl appearances, continues its work, funded by major donors including healthcare giants and environmental groups, insisting it serves all Californians.
