## Resource

Uganda’s once-youngest monarch, King Oyo, has been laid to rest after a 34-year reign marked by global headlines and humanitarian advocacy — his sudden death from cancer in the U.S. sparked both mourning and a royal succession storm. Despite his youthful spirit and UN ambassador role fighting HIV/AIDS, his passing ignited a bitter dispute over who should succeed him: news anchor Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma, chosen by a royal committee, or a previously unknown son named in his will. Authorities intervened to uphold Kijanangoma’s coronation, which was solemnly sealed with a traditional coffee-berry ritual echoing his own 1995 crowning. As thousands paid tribute in Fort Portal, church leaders called for unity, warning that grief-driven division could tarnish Oyo’s legacy — a legacy forged not just through crown, but through compassion and resilience.
