## Resource

Illinois Fighting Illini and UCLA Bruins reshape college basketball recruiting by turning to Europe and beyond—are international prospects the future of the sport? Brad Underwood’s Illini have emerged as a premier brand in European recruiting, while Mick Cronin’s Bruins balance international additions like Nikola Kusturica with transfer portal strategy and domestic prospects. The conversation highlights the shift away from high-maintenance, 5-star recruits and the advantages of signing seasoned international players shaped by the professional club system. Key topics include the impact of NIL on recruiting choices, the challenge of adapting NCAA rules for international athletes, and whether U.S. college basketball can keep pace as NBA MVPs trend international. The discussion explores how coaching philosophies drive roster construction, the future balance of domestic versus international recruiting, and the implications for both programs as football and basketball compete for resources and campus passion. Will American schools embrace a global approach, or double down on homegrown talent? Zach Anderson-Yoxsimer & Sunny Verma discuss!
