## Resource

San Jose Sharks’ Yaroslav Askarov faces a crucial turning point—can he seize the starting goaltender spot and cash in on a major contract with a standout season? JD Young spotlights Askarov’s high-stakes battle for consistency and how improved defense and a playoff push could turn question marks into long-term stability. If Askarov delivers, he could anchor the crease for years while earning top dollar in this pivotal contract year. Will Smith’s offensive breakout and Luca Cagnoni’s window to shine as San Jose’s premier offensive defenseman also take center stage. With Smith looking to build off a 24-goal campaign alongside linemate Macklin Celebrini, his next paycheck could mirror rising NHL stars if he flirts with 40 goals. Meanwhile, Cagnoni’s unique playmaking skillset and timely contract renewal could solidify him as a foundational piece on the Sharks’ blue line. Which of these young Sharks will benefit most from a stellar 2026-27 season?
