## Resource

A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded when 55-year-old delivery driver Simon Gettings was fatally struck by a train at a manual crossing in Burscough. A devoted father and husband who’d retired early from teaching, he was crossing the tracks just before 3:20 PM on August 29th — his life cut short instantly. The train, en route from Southport to Wigan, left two passengers injured. As authorities investigate, the Rail Accident Investigation Branch will probe safety systems, crossing protocols, and Network Rail’s oversight — all while the community mourns the irreplaceable loss of a man whose love for family defined his life.
