## Resource

A man with a 49-conviction rap sheet, including a recent burglary, got 18 months for stealing from his neighbor’s open-door moving-out flat — even leaving a heartfelt “I’ll miss you” note before pawning her watch and ditching her headphones. His lawyer blamed his dog and cited childhood trauma, but the judge called it hypocritical and sentenced him anyway, noting his rare clean streak since 2012 — and warning that real redemption lies in staying out of trouble after release.
