## Resource

Eight bikers from Devon got hit with $960 in fines after stopping for ice cream at a lake in Eryri National Park — caught by new ANPR cameras meant to stop overnight camping. Each rider paid $120 for two stops, despite motorcycle parking costing just $1. The backlash is growing, with locals and visitors alike furious over what they see as an unfair, profit-driven crackdown that’s pricing people out of their own community spaces. A petition is gaining traction demanding free parking, calling the new fees and restrictions — including midnight-to-8am closures — an insult. The changes, rolled out by a private company after summer chaos from over-tourism, are now sparking anger even among those who supported the restrictions. The park authority says this is a temporary pilot until October, to gather data and feedback before deciding on future parking policies — but for now, the ANPR system stays active and car parks remain closed late at night.
