## Resource

Sefton Council moves ahead with closing the 87-year-old Churchtown Botanic Gardens aviary next March, citing outdated welfare standards and soaring upkeep costs — even as PETA backs the decision. A Liberal Democrat motion to pause the closure was narrowly defeated 35-27, ending hopes for a delay. Despite past failed attempts to rehome the site, campaigners push back with a petition of over 500 signatures, arguing relocation could harm birds and that charitable alternatives exist — but the council stands firm, saying the process was transparent and open to scrutiny.
