## Resource

The government’s cracking down on Winter Fuel Payments for high earners — if you’re a state pensioner making over £35,000 annually, you’ll start seeing £17 deducted monthly from your payment. That’s because HMRC is adjusting tax codes to ensure only eligible recipients get the benefit. You can opt out before it happens by April 2026 via gov.uk or mygov.scot — and remember, this applies to your income alone, not your partner’s. For those doing Self Assessment, repayments will likely come off your tax bill — expect that amount to rise to around £33 in a couple of years before possibly dropping again.
