## Resource

UK and France are making strides in curbing dangerous Channel crossings, hitting a seven-year low with just 102 small boat attempts this summer — down from years of higher numbers. France is deploying 45 extra officers to beaches to stop launches before they happen, while the UK is pouring in up to £662 million to fund the joint effort. Officials stress that while progress is real, smugglers keep adapting, demanding relentless vigilance. The Home Secretary confirms record stops — over 48,000 attempts thwarted — and mass removals of illegal migrants. This cross-border cooperation is seen as vital to tackling a complex, evolving crisis and protecting vulnerable people from exploitation.
