## Resource

Leicestershire County Council is preparing to sue the government over its controversial plan to expand Leicester’s boundaries and split the region into two new authorities, a move fiercely opposed by 87% of respondents in a government consultation. Local leaders and political parties across the spectrum are rallying behind the council, warning that towns and villages risk losing their identity and essential services. While the government claims the reorganization will slash costs, boost housing, and improve public services, critics argue it’s undemocratic and threatens community character. With legal costs expected to be minimal and other councils joining the challenge, this battle could reshape how local government works across Britain.
