## Resource

A bold new plan from thinktank Compass aims to overhaul sick pay and parental leave in the UK, proposing that workers must have paid National Insurance for at least a year to qualify for better benefits — with safeguards to prevent abuse, especially among the self-employed. The proposals target financial insecurity for low-wage and insecure workers, encourage more dads to take paternity leave, and help people stay employed while recovering. Compass also calls for self-employed folks to contribute to pensions via tax returns, backed by government tax relief — all designed to give workers real security and protect families from financial hardship.
