## Resource

Over $330 million poured into KU and Mizzou athletics last year—funding over a thousand student-athletes—but this rivalry carries a weight far beyond the scoreboard. Rooted in Civil War violence and slavery, it’s a feud that stirs deep historical pain, especially for families still grappling with its legacy. Even Missouri’s coach admits he doesn’t care if the games continue, and fans seem to agree. With Kansas City’s economy depending on regional cooperation, is this rivalry really worth preserving? The next football clash won’t come until 2031, but basketball teams will meet this December—raising the question: can a rivalry that resurrects such dark history still serve a positive purpose?
