## Resource

Kansas health officials are sounding the alarm as rabies encounters surge — mostly from bats — prompting a nationwide CDC warning. With a 17% spike in rabies-related calls and a 33% jump in vaccine use, experts stress that timely post-exposure treatment is lifesaving. While no human cases have been reported in Kansas this year, nearly 1.4 million Americans are evaluated annually for possible exposure — and fewer than ten die each year thanks to prevention. Most cases come from wild animals; so far this year, nine positive cases were confirmed — six in skunks, one in a cow, one in a dog, and one in a bat. Stay alert, especially around bats.
