## Resource

Lawrence city commissioners just approved major tax and fee hikes set to take effect in 2027 — including a pending property tax increase and annual stormwater rate jumps of 7.51% over three years. While the exact tax amount is still being finalized, the move follows required public hearings under Kansas’s new revenue-neutral rate law, which mandates extra transparency as property values rise. Budget debates centered on funding priorities, with most of the tax boost going to the general fund and library — and some commissioners floated cost-cutting ideas like adjusting health insurance or scaling back new fire-medical hires. Stormwater rates, however, passed unanimously, tied to your property’s impervious surface area, kicking in January 2024. Final vote scheduled for September 15.
