## Resource

Kansas lawmakers are sounding the alarm over $24 million diverted from critical funding for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities — money meant to shrink a growing state waiting list — instead redirected to aid those with severe brain injuries, the elderly, and tech assistance needs. Critics argue the move ignores legislative intent, while officials defend it as transparent, legally approved, and drawn from unspent funds — insisting no I/DD services were cut and all authorized slots remain filled. The real dispute? How to fund shrinking wait times without sacrificing other vital programs, exposing a deeper clash between legislative directives and budgetary realities.
