## Resource

Kirk Cousins is poised to start for the Raiders, offering stability and familiarity as they kick off the season. But don’t mistake this for a long-term solution — if the playoffs are out of reach, it’s time for first-round pick Fernando Mendoza to step in immediately, not next week or after months. The organization drafted him to be their franchise QB, and that means real game experience, not just practice reps. With coach Klint Kubiak still undecided on his backup role, Mendoza needs to be QB2 — ready to lead when Cousins can’t. This isn’t like Tom Brady’s rookie year; Mendoza is the cornerstone, not a developmental project. Like Manning or Allen before him, he’ll need time and reps to grow — and the Raiders must give him the field to figure it out.
