## Resource

The Raiders are starting Kirk Cousins under center for Week 1, banking on his experience and familiarity with the offense to provide stability. But with first-round rookie Fernando Mendoza — the franchise’s future QB — sitting on the bench, the team faces a tough choice: prioritize short-term wins or invest in long-term growth. While Cousins’ track record offers immediate security, Mendoza’s development can’t be delayed indefinitely. His preseason flashes hint at potential, but without meaningful reps, he risks stagnation. The pressure is on the coaching staff to balance caution with opportunity — because if Cousins isn’t leading a playoff push, Mendoza needs to play now to become the quarterback of tomorrow.
