Abrams made her name serving 11 years in the Georgia House of Representatives and she was the first Black woman to run for governor as the nominee for a major party in the U.S. After losing her second bid for governor of Georgia in 2022, she turned her focus to fighting for voting rights and The 10 Steps campaign, a nationwide mobilization and education effort to encourage civic engagement. She’s also written more than a dozen books, including romance novels, thrillers, children’s books, non-fiction and memoir.
