The discussion was prompted by a recent article from an evangelistic ministry advocating the Sethite interpretation of Genesis 6. Rather than attacking the character or ministry of those who hold that position, Dr. Lake emphasizes the importance of mature theological disagreement and then examines the interpretation historically and exegetically. A major proof text sometimes offered for the Sethite position is Matthew 22:29–33, where Jesus says that those in the resurrection "neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven." The question is not whether rebellious angels can assume physical form. The question is not whether angels possess sexuality. The immediate issue is whether earthly marriage and family structures continue in the resurrection.
