## Resource

The Chiefs just pulled off a savvy financial move with offensive lineman Trey Smith, shifting $18.5M of his 2026 salary into a bonus to free up $12.5M in cap space now—though it bumps his cap hit by over $6M annually for the next two years. Signed to a $94M extension with a big guarantee, Smith’s 2025 salary alone was over $9M. As they gear up for the season, this restructure keeps their core player happy while boosting financial flexibility—a smart move to stay competitive and build for the long haul.
