CENTCOM said the tanker, Botswana-flagged, was hit in the engine room with a missile, rendering it inoperable, in what CENTCOM described as the sixth commercial vessel disabled since the blockade of Iranian ports along the Strait of Hormuz began on April 13. Earlier today CENTCOM also announced the disablement of the Lexie, another Botswana-flagged motor tanker, in the Arabian Gulf as it transited toward Kharg Island; the vessel was disabled by an undisclosed aircraft with a single AGM-114 Hellfire missile after it ignored repeated warnings. In Regional Impacts, the International Atomic Energy Agency said it will provide technical and moral support to the United Arab Emirates after a drone attack on the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant last month. Emirati authorities quickly shut down a reactor following a loss of external power; officials say repairs could take weeks and will include work to restore the external power line and other physical fixes. Separately, Kuwait’s General Staff said it is actively responding to hostile missile and drone threats as part of ongoing regional security concerns.
